Planning a trip to Iceland? This is where I share the hotels I stayed at, as a companion article to my Iceland day-by-day travel guide and Iceland food guide.

Iceland is a very welcoming country for tourism and it has a great variety of hotels, apartments, hostel and camping sites all around the island. The part-time job it entails in the "planning the journey" phase is that there is just so much to choose from and night stays are not cheap, even in basic accommodations. A few years ago, we might have tried the camper van travel - even if I am not a camper myself - but we went the hotel route, which I honestly prefer. It is not easy to live out of a suitcase and unpack every (other) day but it also provides a bit of warm respite after kilometres on the road.
