Eating around the Golden Circle

As it was a very rainy and windy day during our tour of the Golden Circle, we did several stops between attractions to keep ourselves cosy and dry. Our second stop was at Fontana, a geothermal bakery where rye bread is baked in a geyser. The Icelandic rye bread is rich and sweet. I had a few slices with salted butter and my husband opted for the smoked Arctic char and egg version. It is delicious.

Then we went to Efstidalur, a dairy farm where you can have the freshest ice cream whilst looking at some very peaceful cows. My husband had the affogato, which was a great idea. The ice cream is delicious. You can also have a farm stay in location and try the restaurant if you have time.

As we needed the warmth from the rain and wind, we stopped at the Friðheimar estate, a spectacular tomato greenhouse that has a little shop and a restaurant called Vínstofa Friðheima, where you can have some warm tomato soup, a crisp tomato beer and admire the surrounding structure.
