Where to stay when in Paris?
People used to ask me "Where should I stay in Paris?" a lot when I lived there and I just could not respond as I had never stayed at a hotel there before. I had my own flat and my friends stayed at my place. I also hosted almost 100 couchsurfers back in the day so Airbnbs and hotels was far from my mind.
But years have gone by, I am not a Parisian anymore and as frequent visitors, my husband have stayed at several hotels in Paris such as...
New Hotel Roblin
A stunning small Hausmannien-style hotel in a stunning location: we stayed here around my husband's birthday and his birthday is none other than 14 July, Bastille Day. This location was perfect to head to the Champs Elysées in the morning for the military parade and see the annual flypast - we saw President Emmanuel Macron! - and then to Champs de Mars for the fireworks by the Eiffel Tower at night.

We are big walkers - especially me, as a true Parisian - so walking 20, 30, 40 minutes is not a bother in Paris that is overall very flat. There is nothing worse than heading to Paris with people who are not used to walking and want to do everything on a taxi. Paris is not to visit on a Taxi. At most, use the metro for major distances or the bus for the sights.

Newhotel Roblin
This hotel was great, cosy and the room was quite big for a typical Parisian one. Also the amenities were by Nuxe which made me try (and then purchase) their luxurious Rêve de Miel Shower Gel for the first time. I love when hotels splurge into giving us for the best experience specially in the smallest of details such as amenities.
Location:
Mama Shelter Paris
Now known as Mama Shelter Paris East as they have opened a new location that they call Paris West, I have been going to Mama Shelter since it opened in 2008 for the stunning food, vibes and decor. And we got to stay a few years ago and it was an amazing experience.

Mama Shelter
The rooms are small but very modern - maybe too modern for people who want to live the Parisian Haussmann experience - and comfortable. The restaurant is stunningly decorated by Philippe Starck, the food is great, the bar is very sexy (and they have the best olives!), the amenities are quirky and the overall scent at the hotel is just divine.
The only downfall might be its location, very far apart from the bustling city spots if you go to Paris for the first time and want to be closer to the most famous spots. But if you do not care for it, the 20e arrondissement can be the place for you.
Location:
Maison Albar - Le Diamond
This is the most recent hotel where we stayed at for a week in January 2025. And what a superb decision that was! First impressions matter and as soon as we did our booking, we were offered a complimentary transfer from the Orly Airport to the Hotel. I never mind taking the Metro or the RER - takes me right back to really being a Parisian - but it was very welcoming.

Lobby and Drinks at Maison Albar - Le Diamond
As we arrived, we waited in the darken wood lobby which is very modern and can even be considered a bit kitsch in regards to taste: being truthful to its name, it has bling and diamond shaped features everywhere. We checked-in and had a complimentary welcome cocktail waiting for us at the lobby bar, which was really nice, especially as it was January 1 and we were buzzing from ringing in the New Year. We also had complimentary water replenished on a daily basis and a pack of yummy financiers biscuits when we arrived.
Our room was spacious and with lots of wardrobe space and a big bathroom, which can be hard to come by in Paris. The bathroom was also very modern - with a very modern self-cleaning loo - and towel warmers that made our towels feel like a warm hug in the morning. Were stayed here in the height of winter so cosiness and a comfortable temperature were very important for us.
Located in the 8e arrondissement, this is a premium spot in town, just a walking minute away from the Saint Lazare train station where you can catch several metro lines and now head directly to the Orly airport with line 14.

This hotel will always be close to our hearts because of the attention to detail: on the evening of 5 January, they gave us the cutest Galette des Rois and a crown, to celebrate La Fête des Rois on 6 January. I thought that was so so so thoughtful! Having a Galette des Rois is one of my favourite french traditions and one I hold close to my heart. We are very lucky to always find fresh ones already in December at Apolónia in the Algarve, but having a Galette in Paris hits different. And even better than this surprise? They gave us another one on the 6th as well!
For the service, location and attention to detail, we completely recommend this hotel!
