South Africa Wineries | Wine & Olive Oil Tasting at Tokara Wine Estate
Wine and Olive Oil Tasting at Tokara Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, South Africa

Whenever we land in South Africa, aside from enjoying the welcoming people, the amazing food and the stunning landscape, we head straight to the countryside in Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, away from the bustling city of Cape Town.

We have been to several wineries in the past years and this is one of our favourites: the Tokara Wine Estate, as it gorgeously combines two of our loves: wine and olives. Say no more...

Perched atop the Helshoogte Pass near Stellenbosch, Tokara offers breathtaking views over Simonsberg, False Bay, and Table Mountain. Its sleek, minimalist architecture, crafted from natural materials, mirrors the winery’s pursuit of clarity and elegance in every glass.

We went there for the first time after our early morning wine tasting at the neighbouring Delaire Graff, just on the opposite side of the road. We were pressed for time at this point as we had a lunch reservation at La Petite Colombe.

Delaire Graff Estate: A Luxurious Morning in Stellenbosch
Experience wine tasting at Delaire Graff Estate in Stellenbosch. From bubbles to bold reds, here’s what we sipped in the Wine Lounge and on the terrace. Added bonuses: views, design, and why it’s worth the stop.

That first rushed experience was so good - and we left with so much wine and olive oil already - we promise we'd be back with more time to enjoy the experience in slow mode. And so we did a year later. And with more luggage space.

Tokara is set on the most stunning estate, filled with olive trees and an incredible orchard, beautifully stripping the hills.

The landscape is filled with promise as you enter the massive stone building, welcomed by art everywhere and a gorgeous fountain at the entrance, to awaken your senses.

Winter Wine and Olive Oil Tasting

Spring Wine and Olive Oil Tasting

As promised the second time around, we had a suitcase to fill with goodies to bring back home and we sticked to our promise. We brought back the amazing kalamata olives (our favourites!), kalamata olive paste (the frenchie in me will always call it tapenade), the olive oils and several bottles of wine.

What we tasted and brought back with us:

  • Tokara 2020 Director's Reserve (Red)
  • Tokara 2021 Director's Reserve (White)
  • Tokara Reserve Collection Stellenbosch Syrah
  • Tokara Reserve Collection Stellenbosch Chardonnay
  • Tokara Reserve Collection Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Tokara Reserve Collection Stellenbosch Wine of Origin Elgin Sauvignon Blanc
  • Tokara Straw Wine Chenin Blanc 2023 (the most gorgeous sweet wine)
  • Tokara Premium Cold Extracted Extra Virgin Olive Oil - Multi Varietal (great with sautéed veggies, stews and salads)
  • Tokara Premium Cold Extracted Extra Virgin Olive Oil - Mission (great with fish)
  • Tokara Kalamata Olives Jar
  • Tokara Olive Paste

Thanks to the superb staff at Tokara Wine Estate and specially Gershwin for the memorable experience <3
