In an early winter July morning, we drove for 45 minutes from the Table Bay Hotel to the Western Cape Wine Country. Our goal for the day was to visit some wineries, do some wine tasting, purchase some bottles to bring back home and have a meal at La Petite Colombe in Franschhoek.

But maybe we were way too eager and greedy as we left the hotel very early after breakfast and arrived to the incredible Asara Wine Estate & Hotel... before it opened!

Asara offers several wine tasting and cellar tour options around the Estate but they all start only from 11AM on. As we had a full day ahead of us, we couldn't wait there so we headed to another neighbouring estate who starts wine tasting earlier. But as the place was bereft of customers, we walked the grounds and took in the amazing scenery.

We just could not believe the privilege of our sightings and promised to come back in the future, for a proper wine tasting.

Nestled on Polkadraai Road in Stellenbosch Wine Valley, Asara Wine Estate & Hotel is a premium destination blending stunning vineyard views. Since launching its luxury hotel wing in May 2008, it has become a celebrated gem in the Cape Winelands.

We will come back, for sure! But next time, we will make sure we check the proper opening time first!
