Last week, we embarked on a festive culinary journey that left my taste buds dancing with joy! We took the small journey to Porches in Lagoa and ventured into Rolha Wine Bar's Christmas Market. From what we gathered, it was the second edition of the sort. The atmosphere was electric as ten renowned chefs took center stage, creating a symphony of flavours and festive delights.

From sizzling skillets to decadent desserts, each chef showcased their unique flair, turning the kitchen into a culinary playground. The air was filled with the aroma of gingerbread, roasted chestnuts, and the unmistakable scent of Christmas magic.

But the highlight of the evening wasn't just the mouthwatering vegan to carnivorous dishes—it was the creative twist to dining! As we eagerly awaited each course, we engaged in a delightful cork exchange ritual as we had to swap a cork for a plate. How brilliant?

The dishes we loved:

  • From restaurant Vista, we grabbed a fresh Algarvian Coast gamba dish with leeks. Fresh and yummy!
  • From Leça da Palmeira, Seiva's vegetarian roupa velha - a take on the traditional dish you do on Christmas Day with the codfish leftovers from Christmas Eve. One of our favourite dishes, that we most look forward to in the festive season
  • From Alameda Restaurant Chef Rui Sequeira's, a decadent brioche with pulled pork with orange ponzu sauce and leek. Une tuerie, as we say in french!
  • From Bonbon Carvoeiro, by the hands of the nicest chef José Lopes, we had an innovative take on Porco à Alentejana, with grilled black pork, the softest potato purée, clams and pickles. Divine!
  • As for dessert, we went super traditional with a churro with sugar and cinnamon for him and a crêpe au nutella for her

The wine selection at the counter was nothing short of spectacular—chilled and extensive, it perfectly complemented the festive feast. From crisp rosés to velvety reds, every sip enhanced the flavours of the culinary masterpieces before us.

From the laughter echoing in the air to the clinking of glasses, the joy of the holiday season was palpable. It was more than just a meal; it was a celebration of community, creativity, and the spirit of giving. It was also the moment to stumble upon familiar faces, from restaurants we have visited in the past to other fellow foodies we follow on social media.

As we reflect on the afternoon spent, our foodie hearts and stomachs are full, and our appetite for both great food and festive cheer has been wonderfully satisfied. Cheers to the chefs who turned a regular evening into a magical Christmas feast!
