South Africa | The Oranjezicht Farm Market in Cape Town

My husband and I went twice to the Oranjezicht City Farm Market. Our first time was a rainy winter Sunday morning in July 2023 and the second time in a spring Wednesday evening in October 2024. This one is frequently recommended. And now that we tried it we can confirm it is thoroughly enjoyed.

The City Farm History
Established by Oranjezicht City Farm in 2013 by the slopes of the Table Mountain, OZCF relocated to Granger Bay within the V&A Waterfront precinct in 2015. The internationally renowned farmers market has become the largest of its kind in Cape Town and considered one of the 20 best in the world.
What can you find at the Market?
Supporting over 40 local farmers and 80 artisanal food traders, it attracts thousands of people every week yet you do not feel it is that crowded whilst you are there. Or you do when you queue for a yummy freshly baked good.

The market is a hub for promoting local food systems and innovative retail practices, including efforts to reduce food waste and plastic use.

When is the best time to head to the Oranjezicht Market?
The market opens on Wednesday evenings and weekends. The produce is vibrant, the food is amazing and the vibe is just superb at the market. We thoroughly recommend. We love the Legado coffee with a portuguese Pastel de Nata (Custard Tart) with a lotus biscuit (so decadent!), an oven baked pizza or a falafel bowl.

Our verdict?
My husband Bruno and I have visited several markets all around the world this is our favourite. A must visit when in Cape Town.
