Namibia | The Pink Oasis in the middle of the silent Desert

Namibia | The Pink Oasis in the middle of the silent Desert
One Night in Namibia bar at the Desert Grace by Gondwana Collection in Namib Desert

After crossing the Tropic of Capricorn, arriving at Desert Grace felt like the biggest reward ever. It was scorching hot, we had just spent several hours in a aircon-less car and our expectation was high after crossing the bereft dry landscape. We were asking ourselves "what possibly could be built in the middle of nothing?"

As soon as we entered the Gondwana Namib Desert Collection property, we were in for a ride with the cutest road signs in the world and... animals every where, roaming free.

I love antelopes and being so close to Gemsboks (aka Oryx) was just magical.

When we arrived at the Desert Grace, we were impressed by the expansion of the site and how you could not see it from afar nor see anything from there, being perfectly secluded. The grey buildings that resemble tents in the desert are an amazing feat of engineering, built with bags of desert sand. You cannot get more sustainable than that in the middle of the desert.

We were warmly greeted in our car with some fresh towels and a pink strawberry slushy that gave me life instantly. It was absolutely delicious.

Also, a small detail, but we were in awe that the car park was covered with solar panels. That. Is. So. Clever!

We were promptly checked in into our accommodation in the far end of the north aisle of the resort.

The room was one of the most spectacular we had ever seen or been to in our lives (and we have seen our share of hotels). The bathroom was spacious and filled with the most amazing details.

Both room and bathroom were open to the exterior to our private plunging pool and the stunning desert and mountain landscape before us, bereft of people, structures or any man made object.

Basically it was just us and the infinite horizon and that vision took our breath away at every glance. And in all the details back at the facilities, there was a cohesive factor: a major love for the colour pink. And you know what?

Even if it's everywhere, it's done so beautifully that it's not so feminine an insecure man might feel uncomfortable.

And speaking of pink details, we were in for more surprises at the most amazing bar in Namibia with its vast array of pink cocktails and popcorn bowls!

As well as the superb decor at the restaurant, where pink was also honoured at every table, at every station, at every meal. If you love attention to detail like I do, your heart might also skip a few beats!

We enjoyed 3 nights at the Desert Grace, enjoying either the quietness from our room, seeing some animals close and afar from the plunge pool, having the most amazing meals - major kudos for their fresh daily grilled game meat! - looking at the amazing starry sky and enjoying sunrises and sunsets together.

The lodge offers several activities around the premises - like a sundowner walk in the desert - but we decided to stay put most days.

We only got out one day, on our own and not on an organised tour, to visit the region of Sossusvlei and the mysterious Deadvlei, famous for its apocalyptic vibes.

This was one of the most magical stays of our lives, from the warmth of the people, the amazing decor, the stunning food, the incredible location. Our only mistake was to only have booked a 3-night stay, we promised next time we might stay for a whole week, the place deserves us taking our sweet time. Cannot wait to go back and create more starry night memories!
